I recently participated in a very practical, eye-opening spiritual exercise.  I found it helpful in getting at least some sense of my capacity to love.

It involves reading the selection below from 1st Corinthians substituting the word “Love” with YOUR OWN name. When I used my name it read like this:

Charles is patient, Charles is kind. He does not envy, he does not boast, he is not proud. He is not rude, he is not self-seeking, he is not easily angered, he keeps no record of wrongs. Charles does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. He always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. (1st Corinthians 13: 4-7).

We should not be discouraged in realizing the ways in which we may fall short. We are all in process. Learning to love involves a lifetime.
